New Orleans Visits to Experience Adelaide’s Festival Season

Over the weekend, Adelaide City of Music was excited to welcome Tristan Bagala, New Orleans’ newly appointed UNESCO City of Music Focal Point, and Senior Manager Business Development & Special Projects at the New Orleans Tourism Commission (New Orleans & Company).

Tristan visited Adelaide to witness the launch of the 2026 Adelaide Fringe Festival and meet with representatives of the government, the arts, and tourism. Between taking in all the Fringe has to offer, Tristan also got to visit the Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, and South Coast.

Adelaide City of Music built a good relationship with Tristan and the New Orleans & Company to support the birthplace of jazz and home to the world-renowned Mardi Gras in their successful UNESCO Creative Cities Network application.

New Orleans recognised the value of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network and joined to connect, promote, and build visitation to its city. New Orleans has been specifically interested in South Australia’s year-round calendar of events and world-leading festivals.

Adelaide City of Music is the UNESCO Focal Point in South Australia and works to celebrate, create opportunities, and build connections for SA Music culture across the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and beyond.

ACOM is currently in discussion with several UNESCO Creative Cities, including New Orleans, Kansas City, Austin, and Montreux, about the benefits and opportunities of music tourism. Tristan’s visit represents ACOM’s work to build new relationships and leverage the expertise and cities within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network to benefit the state’s music and broader cultural tourism potential.

We thank him for his visit to our vibrant state and look forward to a continued and fruitful relationship.
