Adelaide has joined with other international Creative Cities for Equaliser (EQ).
Equaliser (EQ) saw 13 female and non-binary young people given the opportunity to connect, write and record a song, and star in their own music video. South Australia’s participation in the project was led by Music SA.
Participants, who were all aged 18 to 25, got to learn from some of the best local, female musicians and industry practitioners in the business: like songwriting mentors Nancy Bates, ELSY and Elli Belle; photographer and filmmaker Morgan Sette, recording engineer Bethan Maddison and dance choreographer Lauren Pisaniello from Precision Dance. Michael Ross of award-winning duo Electric Fields composed the music, and the participants wrote the lyrics and melody.
Together, the participants shared their stories, recorded a song, and directed and starred in a music video.
EQ was made possible by the support of Adelaide UNESCO City of Music office, The Music Development Office, The City of Adelaide, Music SA and Headspace Adelaide.
In addition, a documentary of the project was made by filmmaker Morgan Sette:
